Freestyle Canada have announced the return of Peter Judge as the organisation's chief executive.

Judge previously held the role for a 10-year spell between 2004 and 2014.

He then left after the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics to become the director of winter sport at Own the Podium.

Own the Podium was established to help fund and boost Canada's chances of medal success at their home Vancouver 2010 Winter Olympics, with the programme having since been expanded to summer sports.

During his previous tenure, Judge led the Canadian freestyle athletes to 19 Olympic and 69 International Ski Federation (FIS) World Championship medals.

This included working to have new freestyle skiing disciplines included in Olympic events, before acting as head coach of the Canadian team having had the sport accepted as a demonstration event at Calgary 1988.

Judge helped get slopestyle and halfpipe events on the official programme at the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Freestyle Canada said.

He has also been credited with boosting the quality of the freestyle skiing system in Canada, working on improving facilities and giving coaches stronger technical support.

This is claimed to have helped guide the athletes’ development and led to Freestyle Canada’s best-ever Olympic performance when the team garnered seven medals in Sochi.
