Al Ain in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) will host the first World Cup event of the 2019 World Shooting Para Sport season.

The competition will be held from February 16 to 24 and will be an integral part of the qualification process for the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. 

All 13 medal events featured in the 2020 Paralympic programme will be contested, including the newly added mixed 50 metre rifle prone SH2.

The event has been held in Al Ain for the past three years, with the 2018 competition seeing 221 athletes from 41 countries participate.

The first World Cup event will follow a busy 2018 season which featured the World Championships in South Korea, the European 10m Championships in Serbia and the inaugural Para Trap World Championships in Italy. 

"The Al Ain World Cup will be an exciting way to kick off an important year, as athletes look to book their ticket to the Tokyo 2020 Paralympic Games," World Shooting Para Sport manager Tyler Anderson said.

"The Zayed Higher Organisation and Al Ain Equestrian, Shooting and Golf Club are both familiar with hosting shooting Para-sport events, and year after year, they continually raise the standard of quality, and we are certain they will deliver yet another world-class event."
