The 20-strong delegation, spearheaded by Lima 2019 President Carlos Neuhaus, has been in the Argentinian capital visiting sports venues, attending competitions and speaking with local organisers to absorb best practices on how to host successful major multi-sport events in the Panam Sports region.

The delegation is made up of staff from Lima 2019 departments, including marketing, anti-doping, medical services, venue management, sports, international relations, legal and human resources, as the focus of Lima 2019 shifts towards optimising operations in the final nine months of preparations.

An area of particular interest to Lima 2019 is how Buenos Aires 2018 and the International Olympic Committee are using the Games to leave a lasting legacy by connecting young generations to sport.

"Legacy is such an important factor for us so we are fascinated to observe all the creative initiatives at Buenos Aires 2018 which are geared towards connecting with young people, getting them active, and participating regularly in the Olympic Movement," Neuhaus said.

Neuhaus added: "We want Lima 2019 to inspire a new generation of fans who will help to place sport at the heart of Peruvian society. 

"We are using the Games to build or renovate sporting facilities in under-served communities where access to sport has been limited."

The Pan American Games is due to take place next year from July 26 until August 11.

It will feature 6,700 athletes from 41 countries competing in 39 sports and 62 disciplines.

It is scheduled to be followed by the Parapan American Games from August 23 until September 1 with 1,890 athletes taking part in 17 sports and 18 disciplines. 

"We have learnt many useful lessons from our visit and would like to thank the Buenos Aires 2018 Organising Committee for their hospitality and willingness to share experiences during what must be a very busy time for them," said Neuhaus,
