Wilson has grown in belief since triumphing at Gold Coast 2018 in April and he was impressive in beating France’s Thomas Bouvais at the Zlatorog Arena.

An 11-6, 11-6, 11-2 win against the world team bronze medallist sets up a last-four encounter with Poland’s Marcin Skrzynecki, who defeated Ukraine’s Viktor Didukh 11-9, 11-8, 8-11, 13-11 in the quarter-finals.

"I’m really pleased with that," Wilson, 23, said.

"He beat one of the Chinese players (Ye Cha) in the previous round and was playing well in that match, so I knew it was going to be difficult.

"I knew I was going to have to come in strong from the start and I did.

"I prepared really well and got in the right mind-set straight away and that helped me a lot today.

"It all starts now really.

"I’m seeded to finish third so this was my first goal, but I’m looking to do better than that and hopefully I can do that tomorrow."

Other Britons advancing to their respective semi-finals today were European silver medallist Tom Matthews and World Championships debutant Fliss Pickard in the men’s class one and women’s class six events respectively.

Matthews looked to be going out of the tournament at 2-0 down in his quarter-final against Italy’s Federico Falco, but he battled his way back into the match and won the next two sets to take it to a decider.

After saving two match points in the fifth, he clinched the match 3-11, 7-11, 14-12, 11-9, 12-10.

Pickard, meanwhile, beat world number nine Gabriela Constantin in her final Group A match, holding her nerve in the deciding set after the Romanian came back from 0-5 to level at 5-5 and taking the match 8-11, 15-13, 9-11, 12-10, 11-7.

The victory took her into the quarter-finals and she produced an even better performance to defeat world number four and former world champion Katarzyna Marszal 12-10, 11-9, 12-10.

There was disappointment, however, for defending champion Will Bayley in the men’s class seven event and Paralympic champion Rob Davies in the men’s class one competition.

"I’m really disappointed to lose a tough match because I’ve trained so hard for this," Bayley said.

"But this is the way sport is sometimes and he played really well.

"Today he held on when I fought back and I thought for a moment that it was going to be enough to overcome him, but he came out with some really good shots in the fifth set to win it.

"I thought the momentum was with me and I maybe started to think about winning instead of what I needed to do to finish it off, so maybe that was a problem."

Davies started well against Argentina’s Guillermo Bustamante Sierra in their last-16 clash, but having taken the first set, he ultimately lost 11-6, 13-15, 7-11, 7-11.

Bustamante Sierra went onto lose 9-11, 8-11, 7-11 to South Korea’s Joo Young Dae in the quarter-finals.

Joo is Matthews’ semi-final opponent.

The 2018 ITTF Para World Championships are due to finish tomorrow.
