The seventh ITU Paratriathlon World Cup event of the season, as with the able-bodied races yesterday, was changed to a run-bike-run format rather than the traditional swim-bike-run due to the results of a water quality test.

The sprint-distance duathlon featured a first lap run of 2.5 kilometres followed by an 18km bike ride and a final 5km run.

Adam Popp, Kelly Elmlinger and Elizabeth Baker all topped podiums on home soil.

The PTWC class were the first to take to the course with seven men and five women competing.

Australia's Nic Beveridge led from the first transition to take the men's win in 53min 47sec.

Second was Fernando Aranha of Brazil in 56:08 while Czech athlete Jan Tomanek claimed third in 56:58.

In the women's race, Brazil's Jessica Ferreira took her first World Cup win with an impressive bike ride.

Ferreira finished in 1:01.44.

Second place went to home favourite Kendall Gretsch in 1:02:00 with Mexico's Brenda Osnaya Alvarez in third in a time of 1:07:49.

In the PTS5 category, only a men's race was contested.

Mexico's Juan Carlos Cano Espinoza led from start-to-finish, picking up the gold in 53:24.

France's Antoine Besse claimed silver in 56:28 with Japan's Keiichi Sato in third in 56:45.

There was only a men's race in the PTS2 category as three Americans took on two Colombians.

Popp took gold to the delight of the home fans as Colombia's Alberto Almeida Arciniegas finished more than a minute behind.

Popp finished in 1:15.05 while Arciniegas posted a time of 1:16:27.

The Americans took third and fourth place through Cahin Perez and Maikol Monsalve, respectively, as Colombia's Julian Andres Caicedo Arbelaez did not finish the race.

Another American finished on top of the podium in the women's PTS4 race as Elmlinger completed the course in 1:14.46 seconds.

Her closest rival was compatriot Kelly Worrell who finished almost ten minutes behind her in 1:24:25.

Argentina's Elizabeth Borges did not complete the race.

In the men’s race, Ireland's Andrew Nicholson came from behind after the first run leg to take the win.

He finished in an 1:10.00, with China's Jiachao Wang 38 seconds behind and France's Brice Marmonnier crossing the line in 1:03:38.

Finally, the visually impaired category got underway with the largest number of competitors.

In the men's race, Japan took gold and bronze as Yuichi Takahashi won his first ITU World Cup win.

His time of 57:59 bested Kyle Coon of the US in second in 58:47 and Japanese team-mate Satoru Yoneoka, who took bronze in 59:05.

There was a clean sweep for the hosts in the PTVI women's race with Americans occupying the top four positions.

Baker was the winner in a time of 1:07.12, in front of Amy Dixon in second.

Dixon's time of 1:07:40 saw her claim silver while Eliza Cooper was third in 1:10:23.
