Italy upped their tally of gold medals to six at the World Artistic Skating Championships at the Vendéspace rink in Mouilleron-Le-Captif.

Silvia Stibilj and Rachele Campagnol claimed gold and silver respectively in the women's senior solo dance.

Stibilj scored 308.550 points to take the title in France, followed by her team-mate Campagnol in silver on 295.650.

Bronze went to Brazil's Ana Beatriz Morais de Toledo, who scored 293.650.

Stibilj is also set for a medal in the senior style dance couples event.

She partners Andrea Bassi and they join team-mates Anna Remondini and Daniel Morandin at the top of the provisional standings.

Italy's success looks set to continue as Luca Lucaroni and Alessandro Amadesi sit first and third respectively in the senior men's freeskating short programme event.

Lucaroni performed a routine to the song Hallelujah and all seven judges ranked his routine the highest.

His performance was "technically sound and touching", including a reference to his late coach, Gabriele Quirini, who died a few months ago.

Scoring 136.200 points, Lucaroni is in pole position for the gold.

Spain's Pere Marsinyach Torrico, who performed a routine inspired by a patient-doctor relationship, is currently in silver medal position.

His performance scored 132.600 points and put him in front of Italy's Amadesi.

Amadesi sits provisionally in third with 131.300 points after his routine to Father and Son.

The athletes will be back to perform their second routine on Friday (October 12.)
