Medals were awarded today in the junior solo dance competitions at the World Artistic Skating Championships in Mouilleron-Le-Captif in France. and, although none went to Italy, currently top of the medal table, the Italians are leading the standings for the men's and women's short programme events set to be awarded tomorrow.

In the women’s solo dance junior competition at the Vendéespace rink, Natalie Baldizzone Morales of Spain and Argentina's Chiara Giron moved up a place from yesterday’s standings to take the gold and silver medals respectively.

Sitting second and third overnight, they benefitted from the mistakes made by Portugal’s Maria Beatriz Lopes Sousa, who dropped two positions and had to settle for the bronze medal. 

Morales finished the competition with 303.400 points, 297.250 points ahead of Giron. 

In the men’s competition, Brayan Carreno of Colombia successfully defended his title having the day in second place. 

The Colombian had 123.300 points at the end of day four, 123.500 behind Italy’s Mattia Qualizza.

The second day of competition, though, saw Carreno move ahead on 317.100 points to take the gold, with Qualizza and another Giovanni Piccolantonio, who scored 314.900 and 287.650 respectively.

In the junior short programme, Italy are in pole position in the women’s competition.

Team-mates Rebecca Tarlazzi and Clarissa Bellagamba are currently in first and second position after their first session of competition.

Bruna De Castro Wurts of Brazil is in third with Daria Alexandra Matei of Romania fourth.

In the men’s competition, Italy top the table through Alessandro Liberatore on 127.600 points.

Argentina’s Edgar Waterbor is close behind in second on 127.100 points and Spain currently sit third Pau Garcia Domec on 124.100.

Competition is due to continue tomorrow with the senior solo dance and junior freeskating events.
