Second day of competition at the International University Sports Federation World University Weightlifting Championships in Biala Podlaska saw the United States win their first gold medal of the competition. 

In the women's 58 kiograms evvent, Kaija Francesca Bramwell of the US won gold with 189 points at the Józef Piłsudsk Unviersity of Physical Education.

Monika Dzienis of Poland won the silver with 182 points and the bronze was awarded to Akari Makara of Japan.

The men’s 69kg saw Ding-Chieh Huang of Chinese Tapei score 273 points to win the gold medal, Poland's Szymon Rotnicki the silver with 267 and Alexandre Dumas of Canada the bronze with 259.

Canadian Maude Charron won the gold medal in the women’s 63kg with 226 points.

Australian Kiana Elliot scored 202 points to take the silver medal and Wen-Huei Chen of Chinese Tapei 198 points for bronze.

Ervin Rozsynik  of Serbia won gold in the men's 77kg with 309 points, Yuki Hara of Japan silver with with 303 and Canada's Nicolas Vachon bronze with 300. 

Tomorrow is due to see the women's 69kg, men's 85kg, women's 75kg and the men's 94kg take plae. 

140 athletes are to participate in the competition, taking place at the Józef Piłsudsk Unviersity of Physical Education.
