Slovenia’s Janja Garnbret secured the women’s bouldering title at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) World Championships in Innsbruck.

The 19-year-old star, who had already picked up silver in the lead final last week, made it further up the wall than any of the other five finalists to take the title.

Silver was won by Japan’s Akiyo Noguchi, while bronze was taken by Serbia’s Stasa Gejo.

Jessica Pilz from Austria, who won gold in the lead event last Saturday (September 8), had to settle for fourth.

Victory for the Slovenian climber saw her cement her status as the one to watch in the women's disciplines prior to the sport making its Olympic debut at Tokyo 2020.

Garnbret won five youth world titles before her fist senior triumph in the lead event at the 2016 World Championships in Paris.

It was only a matter of time before she clinched her maiden senior World Championships gold and it came in the bouldering event today, as she proved too strong for the rest of the field.

The event in the Austrian city is due to continue tomorrow.
