Having already set multiple records throughout the first two days of competition, Sjostrom set the first today, in the women's 100 metres butterfly.

The Swedish world record holder came home to win in 57.42sec, beating the previous mark by 0.14sec and finishing almost half a second ahead of the runner-up Kimberly Buys from Belgium.

Third in that race went to Switzerland's Alexandra Sasha Touretski who finished in 59.17. 

The second record of the day came in the very next race, the men's 50m butterfly. 

Ukraine's Andrii Govorov set it with a time of 22.87, which made him the only man in the race to go sub-23.

The time was the 25th fastest in history, while the Ukranian now holds all 10 of the fastest times ever in the event, including the world record of 22.27 he set in June.

The third and final record of the day and therefore of the event, came in the men's 200m breaststroke and this time it went to a Russian in home water.

Anton Chupkov took the gold in 2min 07.59sec, finishing comfortably inside the previous record of 2:08.77, which was set by Germany’s Marco Koch in Moscow back in 2015.

Russia took all three medals in the race, with Kirill Prigoda and Mikhail Dorinov taking the silver and bronze in 2:09.75 and 2:09.86 respectively.

Elsewhere on the night Hungary's Hosszu took two golds in the women's 200m backstroke and women's 200m individual medley, finishing each in 2:10.13 and 2:12.71 respectively.

Sjostrom also picked up two golds, as she won the women's 100m freestyle as well as the 100m butterfly. 

She took gold in the former with a time of 52.99.

The final race of the day, the mixed 4x100m medley relay, was won by The Netherlands' team of Kira Toussaint, Arno Kamminga, Mathys Goosen and Femke Heemskerk. 

They finished in 3:46.10 ahead of Russia in second and Hungary in third.
