India's top seed Sameer Verma justified his billing as favourite as he won the men's title on home soil at the Badminton World Federation Hyderabad Open.

The 23-year-old proved too strong for unseeded Malaysian hope Soong Joo Ven in today's final, coming through 21-15, 21-18.

It capped a fine tournament for Verma who had to come from behind to defeat compatriot Gurusai Dutt in the semi-finals at the GMC Balayogi SATS Indoor Stadium yesterday.

The women's tournament did not go as planned as unseeded Kim Ga-eun defeated Hong Kong's fourth seed Deng Xuan to clinch the gold medal.

Twenty-year-old Kim, who won mixed team gold with her country at last year's Sudirman Cup in Gold Coast in Australia, won a see-saw encounter which went to three games.

The Korean eventually prevailed 21-9, 18-21, 21-17 to win the World Tour Super 100 event.

Three doubles competitions were also completed today.

Indian enjoyed a home win in the men's as top seeds Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty defeated third-seeded Indonesians Akbar Bintang Cahyono and Muhammad Reza Pahlevi Isfahani 21-16, 21-14.

Hong Kong's fifth seeds Ng Tsz Yau and Yuen Sin Ying won the women's doubles final, beating unseeded Malaysians Vivian Hoo Kah Mun and Yap Cheng Wen 21-18, 16-21, 21-14.

India hoped for another home title in the mixed doubles but their top seeds Pranav Chopra and N. Sikki Reddy blew a one game lead against Indonesia's sixth seeds Cahyono and Winny Oktavina Kandow.

It finished 15-21, 21-19, 25-23 after a tight final game.
