A French team boasting the women’s individual gold medallist of the previous day, Jeanne Lehair, and the men’s bronze medallist Nathan Guerbeur, proved too strong for all their rivals.

They finished in 1hr 15min 34sec after four rounds of a 250 metres swim, a 5km bike ride and a 2km run.

France, whose team was completed by Nathan Grayel and Mathilde Gautier, were 20 seconds ahead of the British team, who comprised Leah Peploe, Christopher Perham, Bronwen Owen and Jack Willis. 

Bronze went to a German team that finished just three seconds behind Britain, and included men’s champion Lars Pfeifer, who was backed up by Michelle Braun, Jan Stratmann and Lina Völker.

Germany in turn were hard-pressed by the United States, whose team of Avery Evenson, Collin Chartier, Katie Gorczyca and Darr Smith finished fourth, a single second behind.

The new event replaced the men’s and women’s team events that had taken place at previous Championships.

At the last World University Triathlon Championships, held in Nyon in Switzerland in 2016, France took home the women’s team gold and Great Britain won the men's title.
