The first medallists were confirmed at the International Boxing Association Youth World Championships in Budapest as quarter final bouts were held in the women's welterweight and men's light flyweight divisions.

Every semi-finalist at the event at the Duma Arena in Hungary's capital city is guaranteed at least a bronze which added extra significance to today's last eight clashes.

Women's welterweight winners included England's Paige Goodyear, a 3-2 split decision victor over home Hungarian boxer Viktoria Csilla Ambrus.

Angelina Kabakova of Russia also went through to the last four as she beat Kazakhstan's Maiya Beisebayeva by a 5-0 unanimous decision.

Germany's Alina Popp progressed as she stopped India's Lalita in the third round.

There was also a unanimous decision win for Canada's Charlie Cavanagh over Patrycja Borys of Poland.

In the men's light flyweight, three of the four quarter finals were won by unanimous verdict.

Ireland's Jude Gallagher got the nod from all five judges over Rafael Bender Bianchi of Brazil.

It was the same result for Thailand's Thitisan Panmod, the winner over Barun Singh Shagolshem of India, and Kazakhstan's Makhmud Sabyrkhan who sent home Dmitrii Batiai of Russia.

Puerto Rico's Jan Paul Rivera Pizarro defeated Endashaw Mekonnen Alayu of Ethiopia.

Three of the judges scored the bout in his favour with the other two declaring it a draw.
