It was four years ago when Hungary’s super heavyweight Laszlo Komor won a bronze medal at these Championships in Sofia.

But impressive victories by lightweight fighter Adrian Orban and welterweight boxer Tibor Barbosu over Ukraine’s Taras Bondarchuk and India’s Vijaydeep respectively have begun to raise home hopes for another podium finish.

Norway’s twin brothers Nikolai and Sebastian Terteryan earned last eight places with, respectively, a lightweight triumph over Pedro Conceicao of Brazil and a light welterweight win against Daniel Roberts of Australia.

The competition in Budapest continues tomorrow.
