Canada's women bounced back from their surprise defeat at the hands of Britain as they beat Spain at the Wheelchair Basketball World Championships in Hamburg.

The Canadian team were beaten 64-56 by the British side at the Inselpark Arena yesterday but they produced an improved performance today.

A strong display saw them emerge as 63-34 winners against Spain as the Canadians continue their pursuit of a sixth title in eight editions of the women’s event.

Hosts Germany maintained their superb start in Group B as they secured a third straight win by overcoming France 58-33.

Algeria and China met in the second Group B match of the day later, with the latter keep pace with Germany by remaining unbeaten with an 80-20 win..

Spain suffered at the hands of both defending champions today, with their men’s team suffering a 66-56 loss to Australia.

The result keeps Australia at the top of Group D with two wins, with Argentina joining them by overcoming the Netherlands 70-61.

Italy edged Brazil 57-49 to earn their first Group C victory, with group leaders Japan beating Turkey 67-62.

Germany missed out on a second Group A victory when the hosts were beaten 67-63 by Iran.

Paralympic gold medallists the United States were 82-51 winners against Poland in Group B.

The International Wheelchair Basketball Federation event will continue tomorrow.
