Japan produced a superb display as they recorded a 3-1 triumph over three-time winners Germany to reach the semi-finals of the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup in France.

All three Japanese goals came in the second half as they set up a meeting with England in the last four.

Jun Endo, Riko Ueki and Saori Takarada got on the scoresheet as the Japanese team dominated the second 45 minutes on their way to victory at the Stade de la Rabine in Vannes.

Endo broke the deadlock just before the hour mark with a neatly-worked goal before Ueki doubled their advantage shortly after.

Three minutes later, Japan's progression was all-but sealed when Takarada directed home Nanami Kitamura’s cross.

Georgia Stanway's double had earlier fired England into the semi-finals for the first time as they beat The Netherlands 2-1 at the same venue.

The Dutch side took the lead through Victoria Pelova 12 minutes into the quarter-final clash.

Stanway equalised for England shortly after with a fine solo goal before she converted the rebound after her initial shot had hit the post to put her team 2-1 in front just three minutes later.

England kept the Dutch largely at bay in the second half, with their best opportunity coming when Sandy MacIver saved from Naomi Pattiwael nine minutes after the restart.

In fact, it was England who had the better chances in the second period but they were unable to add to their lead.

Both semi-finals are due to be held on Monday (August 20).
