World number one Simona Halep completed victory in her delayed match at the Cincinnati Masters to book her place in the third round on a rain affected day.

Halep saw her comeback against Australia’s Ajla Tomljanovic halted on Wednesday due to rain after she fought back from losing the opening set at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

Play was delayed again by the weather today, but when action resumed at 3-3 in the decider, Halep immediately took control.

The Romanian star claimed all three games played to wrap up a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 success.

Halep will now face the challenge of another Australian opponent in Ashleigh Barty tomorrow.

Home favourite Madison Keys earned a rare victory over Germany’s Angelique Kerber in their third round match.

Keys had only earned one win against Kerber in their previous eight meetings but the American was able to get the better of the fourth seed by triumphing 6-2, 7-6, 6-4.

In the men’s competition, Milos Ranoic won 7-6, 6-4 in an all-Canadian clash with Denis Shapovalov.

Dimitrov won the opening set 6-2 before Wimbledon champion Djokovic hit back to take the second 6-3.

Play was suspended due to rain with Djokovic 2-1 up in the decider, with action set to resume tomorrow.

Fourth seed Juan Martin del Potro set up a match with Australia’s Nick Kyrgios in the third round as the Argentine star won 6-2, 6-3 against Chung Hyeon of South Korea.

The Association of Tennis Professionals Masters 1000 and Women's Tennis Association Premier 5 category event will continue tomorrow.
