Amelie Delabre scored a first-half penalty as hosts France knocked defending champions North Korea out of the FIFA Under-20 Women's World Cup.

Delabre's converted spot-kick just after the half-hour mark was enough to send France through to the semi-finals with a 1-0 win at the Stade Guy-Piriou in Concarneau.

The decisive moment of the game came when Ri Pom-Hyang was adjudged to have handled Sandy Baltimore’s cross in the box.

Delabre then stepped up and beat North Korean goalkeeper Kim Yong-Sun from the spot to score her fourth goal of the tournament.

France will take on Spain in the last four after they edged Nigeria 2-1 at the same venue.

Spain started their clash with Nigeria brightly and took a 13th-minute lead when captain Aitana Bonmati fired home a left-footed shot from outside of the area.

Patri Guijarro then doubled the trouble for Nigeria as she scored from close range in first-half stoppage time to give Spain a 2-0 advantage.

The African side threatened a comeback when Peace Efih halved the deficit 12 minutes after the restart but Spain held on to progress to the last four.

England play The Netherlands and three-time winners Germany take on Japan in the other two quarter-finals.

Both are scheduled to take place in Vannes tomorrow.
