Montenegro, Greece, Croatia and Serbia all completed the group stage of the International Swimming Federation (FINA) Men's Youth World Water Polo Championships with 100 per cent records in Hungary.

The success of all four countries meant they topped their groups and they will now advance directly into the quarter-finals.

Teams finishing in second and third place could still join them in the last eight but must negotiate an extra play-off round.

It was Montenegro who topped Group A after they eased past Egypt 21-4 at the Tofurdo venue in Szombathely.

Elsewhere in the group, Australia and Brazil finished 8-8 and will both enter the play-offs.

In Group B, Greece defeated China 18-6 to remain unbeaten.

Russia met hosts Hungary and the two sides played out a 9-9 draw, with both going through to the play-off phase.

Group C saw Croatia keep their perfect record intact as they thrashed Uzbekistan 22-6.

United States beat New Zealand 7-3 and will play in the play-offs alongside Italy, who were not in action today.

In Group D, Serbia thrashed Saudi Arabia 26-5 to top the pile.

Colombia beat Canada 11-6 in the other match to book a spot in the play-offs.

Spain, who were not in action today, had already assured themselves of a play-off spot.

The play-off round will be held tomorrow before the last eight on Friday (August 17).

Australia will play Colombia, with Brazil meeting Spain.

Hungary will collide with the US and Russia will lock horns with Italy.
