Nigeria are through to the quarter-finals of the FIFA Women's Under-20 World Cup in dramatic fashion after a 95th minute equaliser against China saw them knock out their opponents on goal difference.

Four matches took place today in France to decide Groups C and D, on what was the final day of group action.

A 6-0 win for Japan against Paraguay and a draw for Spain against the United States saw each of them through from Group C, while in Group D Germany's position in the next round was already secured before today's matches began.

Nigeria's match against China, however, was a must win for the Chinese.

Both sides started the game on three points but Nigeria boasted a better goal difference, meaning China had to win to go through.

Knowing what was required of them, it was the Chinese that started the better side at the Stade du Clos Gastel.

Mengyu Shen had the first good chance of the match when she hit the crossbar in the 25th minute, only for their captain Linlin Wang to head over from close range just minutes later.

They kept up the pressure though and eventually prevailed four minutes before half time when Linyan Zhang lost her marker in the box and stroked it home.

With that goal Nigeria were heading out and despite their best efforts in the second half, it looked as if the match would end 1-0.

It was not to be for the Chinese, however, as with just seconds to go, Ajibade popped up in the box to turn home Aishat Bello’s cross at the near post, sparking wild celebrations and sending the West Africans through.

The other match in Group D saw Germany beat Haiti in a thrilling game 3-2.

Having already won their first two matches the Germans were already through, but today's win over means they go through as group winners and will therefore face Japan in the last eight.

Laura Freigang opened the scoring at the Vannes Stade de la Rabine before Kristin Kogel doubled their lead just before half time.

On the hour mark Klara Buhl put the Germans three up, before Haiti's captain Nerilia Mondesir scored a brace to put the Germans under pressure.

In truth the result never looked greatly in doubt and Germany go through unbeaten.

In Group C, just like Germany, Spain's place in the last eight was also secure before their match today.

They merely needed a draw to win the group and they promptly gained one 2-2, although it could have been much better in Dinan-Lehon.

Again, just like the Germans, Spain were 2-0 up at half time, but they were also unable to stop their opposition scoring and with three minutes of normal time to go, the US equalised.

Thankfully for the Spanish the US did not get another, meaning La Rojita go through to face Nigeria.

Lastly, also in Group C, if Japan were to go through they had to beat Paraguay, which might have made them nervous, although if they were they certainly did not show it.

By half time the Japanese were four goals to the good, thanks to a couple of braces from Saori Takarada and Riko Ueki.

Both players then completed their hat-tricks in the second half to seal the win 6-0.

Today's results mean that all the quarter-final line ups have been decided.

Nigeria's reward for their last gasp winner today is a last eight tie against Spain.

Germany will play Japan in the other quarter-final in the bottom half of the draw.

While in the top half the hosts France will play the defending champions North Korea and England will play The Netherlands.
