The young skaters named on the figure skating team include 10 men, 14 women, six pair teams and six ice dance teams.

They may be considered to represent Canada on the International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix circuit, the ISU World Junior Figure Skating Championships and other international competitions.

It comes as part of the "NextGen" programme, established in 2016 to support the Skate Canada’s high-performance development system.

According to Skate Canada, the aim of the initiative is to ensure athletes and coaches advance at their maximum potential through development and training opportunities.

Skate Canada believe their budding youngsters can become among the best figure skaters in the world as a result of the "NextGen" scheme.

Canada have won a total of 29 figure skating medals at the Winter Olympic Games.

Their tally includes six golds, 11 silver and 12 bronze.
