A French biathlete once considered a star of the future has announced he has retired from the sport at the age of 25 because he claims he has lost the motivation for it.

Clement Dumont won three medals, including a gold in the relay, at the 2012 International Biathlon Union (IBU) Junior World Championships in Kontiolahti in Finland.

He then won a silver medal in the following year's IBU Junior World Championships in Presque Isle in the United States and was tipped for a bright future. 

But Dumont has now revealed on his Facebook page that he is qutting the sport.

He instead plans to study to become a physiotherapist in Nice.
