Barbados dazzled to win the men's 4x100 metres relay in a national record at the Central American and Caribbean Games in Barranquilla today.

The nation produced a superb display to beat their Caribbean rivals in a time of 38.41sec - an improvement of 0.14 on the previous national record - at the Rafael Cotes stadium.

The team of Shane Brathwaite, Mario Burke, Burkheart Ellis and Jaquone Hoyte looked comfortable throughout and always seemed the likely winners.

Christopher Valdez, Yohandris Andújar, Stanly del Carmen and Yancarlos Martínez took silver for Dominican Republic in 38.71.

A Jamaican team containing Nesta Carter, whose failed drugs test led to the country being stripped of Olympic relay gold at Beijing 2008, as well as Romario Williams, Rasheed Dwyer and Javoy Tucker took third in 38.79.

Trinidad and Tobago had to settle for fourth in 38.90.

There was more success for the country in the javelin, though, as London 2012 Olympic champion Keshorn Walcott triumphed in dramatic circumstances with a final round effort of 84.47m.

Grenada's Anderson Peters had appeared destined to take gold but had to settle for second with 81.78m.

David Carreon Manriquez of Mexico took bronze 76.27m.

Jura Levy, Sherone Simpson, Jonielle Smith and Natasha Morrison enjoyed a Jamaican win in 43.41 seconds in the women's 4x100m relay.

Trinidad and Tobago's Khalifa St. Fort, Zakiyah Denoon, Reyase Thomas and Semoy Hackett took silver in 43.61 and Dominican Republic's Mariely Sánchez, Marileidy Paulino, Anabel Medina and Estrella de Aza the bronze in 43.68.

Puerto Rico took gold in men's volleyball elsewhere today.

They enjoyed a straight sets 3-0 success over hosts Colombia in the final as Mexico battled to a 3-2 bronze medal match win over Cuba.

Cuba took the men's softball spoils after a 4-2 grand final win over Venezuela.

Dominican Republic took bronze after losing 6-1 to Venezuela in the earlier final playoff.
