Frank Gonzalez has been re-elected as President of the Royal Spanish Ice Sports Federation for a further four-year term in Barcelona.

The former International Ice Hockey Federation Council member was the sole candidate for the position.

Gonzalez expressed his hope that Spain could achieve further success in ice sports, following figure skater Javier Fernandez’s bronze medal at the Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics.

He also reflected on Spain winning Division II Group A gold medals in various national team categories in ice hockey.

Gonzalez stated that while other European federations were stronger, he hoped they would be able to develop further in the coming years.

"We can only continue to develop and work hard as we know the direction we wish to follow and although it is always tough for a country such as ours being the southernmost European country surrounded by France, Italy and Britain when it comes to higher level of competition in all ice sports and especially Ice hockey,"he said.

"We look to the future with high optimism as those countries have started ahead of us, but we sincerely look up to them and wish to compete at the highest level even though the economic means is still not there for us, but we depend on our will and desire to learn and play the game we love to our capacity."

Gonzalez previously served as the vice-president of the federation from 2006, when the Spanish Ministry of Sport separated ice and snow sports.

He served in the role until 2014, before being elected as President.

His four-year term will take Gonzalez through to the Beijing 2022 Winter Olympics.

The Royal Spanish Ice Sports Federation also approved the organisation’s new logo and title given by the King of Spain.
