Malta has joined the International Blind Sports Federation ©IBSA

The International Blind Sports Federation (IBSA) has announced it has a new member association representing blind sports in Malta.

Malta Sport for All now represents the interests of blind and partially sighted athletes on the island.

Based in Gzira, the organisation is looking to promote sports among the visually impaired population.

In a statement, the IBSA said: "We would like to welcome Malta to the international blind sports family and wish them all the very best.

"We look forward to working with Malta Sport for All to transform the lives of visually impaired people in Malta."

The IBSA now has 113 member countries from five continents.

There are 20 in Africa, 22 in the Americas, 26 in Asia, 44 in Europe and one in Oceania.
