The International Federation of University Sport (FISU) World Muaythai Championships is hotting up in Thailand, with many categories reaching the quarter-final stage on day four in Pattaya.

Another 13 fights took place today at the Hard Rock Hotel, with four Thai athletes in action once again.

As was the case yesterday the first home fighter to take to the ring today lost.

Apinya Butrduang fell to a 28-29 defeat against Andra Aho from Estonia in the women’s 54 kilogram category, in what was the second fight of the day.

Another Thai, Pengsai Ausma, then restored the mood among the crowd however.

In the next fight in the ring Ausma beat Russia's Aslanbek Zilcreer in another points decision, 30-27.

That fight took place in the men’s 54kg event.

It was a case of fluctuating moods for the Thais today however, with their third fighter in action, Chaipat Rittichai, matching Butrduang in failing to win.

Rather than losing in a close points decision though, Rittichai was stopped in the first round by Kazakhstan’s Yerkhnat Ospan.

That was one of just two first round stoppages today.

The other came in the 10th fight of the day, when Russia’s Vitali Filppov proved too much for Palista Jay-Mar from the Philippines.

From a Thai point of view at least the day finished on a high, as Kittisak Suksanguan, the home nation’s final fighter in action, won his bout on points against another Russian Viadimin Kuzmin.

That finished 30-27 in favour of the fighter on home soil.
