Hosts Thailand won all three contests in which they were represented on the opening day of the World University Muaythai Championship in Pattaya.

Yodphaka Pakorn was among the home nation's trio of victors at the temporary venue inside the Thai resort city's Hard Rock Hotel.

He beat Japan’s Hyuma Hitachi in the men's 57 kilograms category to set-up a quarter-final bout with Kazakhstan’s Almaz Sarsembekov, who defeated Turkey’s Fatih Deger today.

There were also wins for Thailand in the women’s 60kg and men’s 67kg categories through Kesinee Tabtrai and Kittisak Suksanguan respectively.

Tabtrai overcame Russia’s Mariia Koatikova 30-27 and will now go onto face Israel's Nili Block, who benefited from the first-round retirement of Kazakhstan’s Albina Kulbizekova, in the semi-finals.

Suksanguan, meanwhile, beat Malaysia’s Ruszi Aliff to earn a last-four encounter with Russia’s Viadimin Kuzmin.

Kuzmin proved too strong for Japan's Gakuto Nishimura.

Action in Pattaya is due to continue tomorrow.
