October 4 – The official weigh-in for the Commonwealth Games boxing competition has been put back until tomorrow after complaints the test scales were faulty.

Australia raised concerns after one of their fighters was deemed overweight, with spokesman John Gatfield saying: "They went to the sauna trying to lose weight and when they came back, weighed more than the last reading.

"There was a lot of chaos there and they have decided to have a second weigh-in on Tuesday morning.

"It was really ridiculous."

The scales will now be recalibrated, but boxing competition manager Lenni Gama denied there was a problem.

She said: "All this fuss is created by the teams who have overweight boxers in their team.

"The scales are perfect."

Meanwhile there remain technical glitches over the Games News Services with information about various competitors still incomplete.

A spokesperson for Team Scotland said: "We are hearing from the Organising Committee that the Games info system will not be up and running cross-venues until Tuesday or Wednesday.

"This will clearly cause us all a number of logistical problems."

An official from the Games News Services at the Main Press Centre told insidethegames: "There has been a problem with the athlete biographies because of contractual issues regarding what we are allowed and not allowed to use.

"Swiss Timing is actually in charge of the Games schedule but they have had a few technical problems which is why we have been slightly behind schedule."

Further criticism will certainly involve the lack of spectators, with glaringly empty seats already seen at the swimming, netball, tennis and hockey.

About two million tickets were made available for the Games event but only around 200,000 have been sold following the negative publicity that plagued the build-up.

Reports ahead of the Games largely focused on incidences including a dengue fever outbreak, infrastructure failures, security fears that followed a tourist shooting and a collapsed pedestrian footbridge near the main stadium.
