The United States sealed the successful defence of their women's title at the Inline Hockey World Championships after coming from behind to beat Czech Republic in today's final in Asiago.

Despite trailing 2-1 after the first period, the US fought back to triumph 3-2 at the Italian township's Hodegart Arena.

Victory secures them their ninth gold medal since the inaugural women's event was held in 2002.

Czech Republic had been hoping to claim their fourth title, and first since 2015 when they beat the US in the final, but fell just short.  

In the bronze medal match, Spain defeated Canada 7-1.

The fifth-place play-off saw Finland overcome Argentina 9-2, while there were also wins for New Zealand in the seventh-place play-off, beating Italy 2-1, and Switzerland in the ninth-place play-off, edging Australia 3-2.

The senior men’s event is scheduled to begin tomorrow.

France will looking to defend their title in that competition.
