The University of Bordeaux’s Valentin Singer and the University of Nottingham’s Lilian Yang claimed the respective men’s and women’s singles badminton titles on day six of the European Universities Games in Coimbra in Portugal.

Singer beat Bursa Uludağ University’s Yusuf Ramazan Bay 21-18, 21-9 in the men’s final, while Yang defeated the University of Strasbourg’s Rosy Oktavia Pancasari 21-8, 21-12.

There was disappointment for Yang, however, in the mixed doubles final as she and partner Phone Pyae Naing lost 23-25, 16-21 to Lobachevsky State University’s Rodion Kargaev and Viktoriia Vorobeva at the Coimbra University Stadium’s Hall 1.

The men’s doubles final was an all-University of Strasbourg contest with Thomas Baures and Mathieu Gangloff overcoming Nathan Laemmel and Matéo Martinez 21-10, 21-17.

Kharkiv Polytechnic’s Maryna Ilyinskaya and Vladyslava Lesnaya beat the University of Duisburg-Essen’s Katharina Altenbeck and Laura Wich 21-10, 15-21, 21-7 in the women’s doubles gold medal match.

The handball finals were also held today with mixed fortunes for Aix-Marseille University at the Municipality Multisports Hall Mário Mexia

They defeated Radboud University Nijmegen 27-17 in the women’s, but lost 25-19 to the University of Bochum in the men’s

In the men’s third-place play-off, Stefan cel Mare University of Suceava overcame the University of Barcelona 25-21.

The University of Belgrade beat the German Sport University Cologne 28-25 in women’s bronze medal match.

Another highlight of today’s action were the volleyball semi-finals at the Coimbra University Stadium’s Hall 3.

In the men’s, Beykent University defeated the University of Nis 25-23, 25-14, 25-19 and the University Toulouse III - Paul Sabatier registered a 25-17, 25-18, 25-22 win over the University of Bologna.

The women's saw the University of Belgrade overcome the University of Rijeka 23-25, 25-10, 25-17, 17-25, 15-13 and the University of Lausanne beat Istanbul Aydin University 25-16, 16-25, 26-24, 25-18.
