China's Dong Jie and Hang Ting's progress at their home Beach Volleyball Under-19 World Championships in Nanjing was ended in the quarter-finals by Raisa Schoon and Emi van Driel of The Netherlands, who beat them 21-12, 21-12 before going on to earn a place in tomorrow’s final.

The Dutch pair finished a day of blazing heat with a 21-13, 21-16 win over the US pairing of Devon Newberry and Lindsey Sparks, and will now meet the Russian team of Maria Bocharova and Maria Voronina for the title in this International Volleyball Federation event at the Tangshan International Beach Sports Park.

The two Marias defeated Canada's Erika Vermette and Dana Roskic 21-17, 21-17 in their quarter-final before knocking out Spain’s Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno 21-16, 18-21, 15-8.

The Spanish pair had earlier defeated Poland’s Julia Gierczynska and Patrycja Jundzill 23-21, 21-15.

"We are so excited and right now the temperature is so high, so we had to make effort and finally we reached our goal to make it to the semi-finals in this tournament," Moreno said.

Russia will also be represented in tomorrow's men’s final after Denis Shekunov and Dmitrii Veretiuk defeated compatriots Alexey Gusev and Pavel Shustrov 24-22, 21-19 in their semi-final.

They will meet Germany’s Lukas Pfretzschner and Filip John, who earned a 21-16, 10-21,15-9 semi-final win over Argentina's Mauro Zelayeta and Bautista Amieva, who had advanced after a 21-14, 21-14 win over England's Bello brothers, Javier and Joaquin.

Out too at the quarter-final stage went the Thai men's pair who had upset the Brazilian second seeds in their previous match, Phichakon Narathon and Phanupong Thanan.

They were beaten 21-16, 21-13 by Shekunov and Veretiuk.
