Germany were crowned winners of the dressage young riders event at the International Equestrian Federation European Championships for Children, Juniors and Young Riders in Fontainebleau.

The German junior team were forced to settle for silver yesterday at the French commune’s Grand Parquet Equestrian Stadium.

They were able to celebrate success in the young riders event, with their team achieving a total score of 222.529 points.

The Netherlands were forced to settle for second place in the competition, after they ended on a tally of 212.792 points.

Sweden rounded off the podium places on 212.792.

Dutch rider Esmee Donkers produced the best ride of the day to help her team finish second overall, as she ended with a score of 77.265.

Germany’s Paulina Holzknecht and Semmieke Rothenberger rounded off the top three individual athletes, after they managed 74.941 and 74.588 respectively.


The team eventing event for young riders also began today, with hosts Britain currently topping the standings.

Sam Ecroyd and Isabelle Upton scored impressively to put the British team on 51.50 points.

Germany lie second on 53.10, while France’s Victor Burtin and Romain Sans ended on 61.50 to end the first day in third.

The eventing competition will continue tomorrow.
