The Netherlands beat Belgium in a heavyweight encounter on day two of the Under-21 World Korfball Championships in Budapest.

The two countries are the dominant powers in the sport and met in Pool A at Tüskecsarnok in the Hungarian capital.

It was the Dutch who came through to triumph 21-14 and they now top the pool.

Elsewhere in Pool A, there was also a big win for the Czech Republic who roared past England 20-7.

In Pool B, Chinese Taipei, Portugal and hosts Hungary have all won both of their two matches with the other three countries in the group not yet off the mark.

Chinese Taipei thrashed Germany 25-7 while Portugal came through 24-14 against China.

Hungary impressed again on home soil, beating Turkey 19-7.

Pool play will continue at the tournament tomorrow.

A total of 12 nations initially entered the event before the Dominican Republic withdrew due to financial problems.

The International Korfball Federation said they would not replace them, meaning Pool A has just five teams.
