Micheli would lead from the start of the event at the Ludovica University Sports Centre in Hungary’s capital city.

The Italian finished the swimming event in the fastest time, clocking 2min 9.27sec to put her at the top of the standings.

She suffered a blow to her chances in the fencing discipline, where she placed 11th with a total of 12 wins and 11 defeats.

But Micheli would clinch the overall victory with a dominant performance in the laser-run, as she finished in a time of 12:42.22.

It proved the fastest time in the discipline and proved enough to give the Italian the women’s title on a tally of 1,049 points.

She was followed by Poland’s Anna Maliszewska, who proved consistent across each of the events to end as the runner-up on 1,032.

Egypt’s Sondos Aboubakr rounded off the podium places, as she recovered from a low finish in the swim during the fencing and laser-run events.

Aboubakr would finish on 1,027 points, which was enough to clinch the bronze medal.

A riding competition did not feature as part of the women’s individual event or the men’s, which concluded yesterday.

The mixed relay is scheduled for Saturday (July 7), with a cultural day taking place tomorrow.

A team event will bring action to a close on Sunday (July 8).

Horse riding will feature in both the mixed relay and team events.

FISU launched the World University Championship (WUC) series to take place during the even-numbered years between Universiades.

As single sport competitions, the WUCs give cities - and often universities - the chance to host major international sports events with minimal cost and complexity.

There are 34 stand-alone WUC events on the 2018 calendar.
