Italy have named their 12-member squad for this year's Wheelchair Basketball World Championships in the German city of Hamburg.

Carlo Di Giusto, the team's technical director, confirmed he had made two changes from the team which represented the country at the 2017 European Championships in Tenerife.

Jacopo Geninazzi is set to make his first appearance for Italy in four years, while Davide Schiera is in line for his debut at a major tournament.

Simone De Maggi and Filippo Carossino will perform the role of team captains for the event, scheduled to take place from August 16 to 26.

The Italian team are first due to meet next week to continue preparations for the tournament before they participate in a pre-departure retreat in Germany in the middle of August.

Italy will take on Japan, Brazil and Turkey in Pool C.

Di Giusto has targeted Italy qualifying for the knock-out round and believes the squad have the ability to achieve a good result.

"It is always difficult to make choices when the differences between the athletes available are so minimal," he said.

“Davide Schiera will be very useful to allow us greater rotations, while Jacopo Geninazzi was the best ever during the last rally, and he won the call with commitment and seriousness.

"Our goal is to make a good group and try to enter the top eight of the world."
