The Kiribati National Olympic Committee held a fun run to mark Olympic Day in the Pacific country.

The event was free to enter with all runners receiving a t-shirt.

Action began at the Dr Tetaua Gas Station in Nawerewere and ended at the Temaiku Fish Farm at Ananau Causeway.

At the end of the run, mangrove trees were planted to help the environment and coastal areas.

Kiribati is one of the most vulnerable countries in the world due to climate change and rising water levels.

This issue has been repeatedly highlighted by weightlifter David Katoatau, Kiribati's first-ever Commonwealth Games gold medallist.

He gained international recognition for his dancing during competitions at the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Rio 2016 Olympics.

Katoatau was joined by two track and field athletes from Kiribati at Rio 2016.

John Ruuka took part in the men's 100 metres and Karitaake Tewaaki was in action in the women's 100m.
