Top seed Hugo Calderano will meet fellow Brazilian Gustavo Tsuboi in the men's singles final at the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) Pan America Cup in Asuncion, Paraguay.

Having both featured among the top four seeds, the Brazilian duo received byes through to the quarter-final stage at the Centro de Entrenamiento Olímpico.

Calderano opened his campaign against Chile’s Gustavo Gomez and earned a 13-11, 14-12, 11-8, 11-5 win to reach the semi-finals.

He would meet Paraguay’s Marcelo Aguirre, who had staged a superb comeback with a 7-11, 9-11, 8-11, 11-7, 11-8, 11-6, 11-9 win against Argentina's Horacio Cifuentes.

Aguirre was unable to trouble Calderano though, with the Brazilian cruising to an 11-6, 11-4, 11-2, 11-9 victory.

His compatriot Tsuboi came from three games down to beat Ecuador’s Alberto Mino 9-11, 8-11, 8-11, 11-6, 11-7, 11-7, 11-6 in his opening match.

He enjoyed a more comfortable 11-4, 11-8, 11-8, 11-4 win over the United States’ Kanak Jha to reach tomorrow’s final.

Top seed Mo Zhang progressed comfortably to the gold medal match in the women’s singles event, as she seeks to improve on runners-up finish last year.

The Canadian beat the United States’ Xinyue Wang 6-11, 11-8, 11-7, 11-4, 11-1, before winning her semi-final 11-8, 11-9, 11-4, 11-9 against Brazil’s Bruna Takahashi.

She will now face Yue Wu, after the American won her last four match against Mexico’s Yadira Silva 10-12, 11-6, 7-11, 11-3, 12-10, 11-6.

Two places will be reserved for players at the men’s and women’s ITTF World Cup competitions in October.
