Thailand's Khosit Phetpradab battled into the men’s singles semi-finals at the U.S. Open Badminton Championships in Fullerton in California.

Phetpradab headed into his match with China's Lu Guangzu as the highest seed remaining in the draw following the exits of China’s Lin Dan and France’s Brice Leverdez.

He appeared on course to avoid a similar fate after clinching the opening game 21-16 against Lu at the Badminton World Federation Super 300 event.

The Chinese play fought back to win the second 21-12 to force the match into a decider at the Titan Gym on the campus of California State University.

Phetpradab held his nerve to win the key game, securing a 21-16, 12-21, 21-16 victory and earn a semi-final spot.

He is now set to face South Korea’s Lee Dong Keun, who secured a 21-18 21-18 victory over Thailand’s Kantaphon Wangcharoen.

India’s Ajay Jayaram progressed to the second semi-final following a 21-18, 21-12 win over South Korea’s Heo Kwang Hee.

He is due to meet the winners of the match between Canada’s Xiaodong Sheng and The Netherlands’ Mark Caljouw.

The tournament favourite was tested in the final game, but won the decider 21-19 to make the last four.

She is now scheduled to face the winner of the match between Japan’s Aya Ohori and Thailand’s Busanan Ongbamrungphan.

Canada’s Michelle Li continued her impressive run and the third seed is yet to lose a game so far in the competition.

Her latest success came against China’s Gao Fangjie, who she beat 21-8, 21-19 to reach the semi-finals.

She is set to face the winners of the match between South Korea’s Kim Hyo Min and China’s Li Xuerui, the London 2012 Olympic champion.
