United States’ Charles Dickson clinched gold as the World Classic Powerlifting Championships continued in Calgary.

The American lifter emerged as the winner of the men’s 83 kilogram junior competition at the Rally Pointe Center in the Canadian city.

Dickson would achieve a total lift of 757.5kg after his deadlift and squat, placing him on top of the overall standings.

Silver was earned by Canada’s Simon Chang, who managed a total of 720kg.

The podium was rounded off by Norway’s Chido Nnoli, who achieved a total of 708kg.

Success continued for the US team in the women’s under 63kg competition, with Solana Lewis claiming victory.

She achieved a total of 425kg to earn gold.

Ukraine’s Sofia Rud and Singapore’s Abigail Looi both managed a tally of 415kg, which saw them claim silver and bronze respectively.

Australia’s Rachel Jones emerged as the winner of the women’s under 57kg competition, having finished with a total lift of 395kg.

Anna Elizarova ended narrowly adrift, with the Russian managing 392.5kg to secure the silver medal.

Finland’s Krista Maatta rounded off the medal positions, winning bronze with a total lift of 375kg.

Classic - or unequipped - competition due to take place until June 17 at the Rally Pointe Center.

Men's and women's events are part of the programme as well as junior and masters - veterans - competitions.
