Argentina and Brazil enjoyed canoe sprint success at the South American Games in Cochabamba, Bolivia.

Agustin Rodriguez produced Argentina’s first gold medal of the day in the men's K1 1,000 metres event, as he crossed the line in a time of 3min 55.60sec.

The podium was rounded off by Brazil’s Vagner Junior Souta and Uruguay’s Sebastian Delgado Curbelo, who finished in 3:57.77 and 3:59.34 respectively.

There was further success for Argentina in the men's K2 1,000m competition, with their team having ended the race in 3:26.77.

Brazil's Isaquias Queiroz Dos Santos clinched top spot in the C1 event, completing the 1,000m in a time of 4:18.81.

The minor medals were earned by Colombia's Sergio Johann David Diaz and Chile's Michael Alejandro Garcia Alegria, who clocked 4:26.69 and 4:30.09 respectively.

Dos Santos' triumph was followed by C2 gold for Brazil, whose team achieved a time of 3:44.07.

Colombia and Venezuela rounded off the top three in times of 3:46.68 and 3:59.06.

The men's hockey competition drew to its conclusion at the Félix Capriles Stadium, with Argentina facing Chile.

A closely fought match saw Argentina edge their opponents 1-0, with Gonzalo Merino scoring the only goal of the game.

Brazil secured bronze by overcoming Venezuela 4-3 in a penalty shoot-out, following a 2-2 draw.

The South American Games continue tomorrow.
