France clinched the gold medal without any errors to their name on the seventh leg of the International Equestrian Federation (FEI) Nations Cup in St Gallen.

The first three riders for the four-strong French team, Mathieu Billot, riding Shiva D'Amaury, Alexandra Francart, riding Volnay Du Boisdeville, Nicolas Delmotte, riding Ilex VP, all recorded perfect scores to make it a perfect day in Switzerland.

Their excellent performances meant fourth rider Olivier Robert, onboard Eros, was not required to compete.

This perfect run from the French was more than enough to see off competition from the hosts, whose riders Werner Muff, Beat Bandli, Steve Guerdat, a gold medallist at London 2012, and Martin Fuchs were given eight penalty points for their eight attempts overall.

Guerdat was the only rider outside of the French team to record two perfect runs.

The Belgian team of Yves Vanderhasselt, Francois Mathy Jr, Christophe Vanderhasselt, Wilm Vermeir rounded off the podium after collecting 13 penalty points whilst debutants Great Britain finished fifth with 17 points.

Elsewhere, there was a win for Ireland at the Nations Cup event in Langley

They ended on just 12 faults in the five-country challenge event in Canada.

Hosts Canada were six faults behind in second and Mexico were third on 25.

The riders will now head to Sopot for the next leg of the FEI Nations Cup, which will take place on June 17.
