Formidable Russian sisters Arina and Dina Averina are set to battle it out for major honours once again at the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships in the Spanish city of Guadalajara.

The duo are among the headline names due to compete at the event, which starts tomorrow and concludes on Sunday (June 3) at the Pabellón Multiusos Guadalajara.

Arina and Dina shared all five individual titles at the 2017 World Championships in Pesaro in Italy.

Dina took top honours as she won the coveted all-around crown as well as gold medals in the club and hoops event.

Arina emerged victorious in the ball and ribbon competitions and will be aiming to get one over her sister at the European Championships.

Other athletes who will be hoping to challenge include Israel’s Linoy Ashram, who has enjoyed a successful season on the World Cup circuit.

Ashram won her first World Cup gold medal in Sofia and also triumphed in Guadalajara, where she beat Arina Averina and Aleksandra Soldatova to win the all-around event.

Italy’s Milena Baldassarri and Alexandra Agiurgiuculese, Belarussians Anastasia Salos and Katsiaryna Halkina and Bulgarians Neviana Vladinova and Katrin Taseva are also hoping to cause an upset.

The event begins tomorrow with qualifications in the junior events and the senior groups five hoops competition.

Qualifying continues on Saturday (June 2), when the team and senior groups all-around final will also be held.
