Slovenians Tina Mrak and Veronika Macarol wrapped-up the women's title at the 470 European Championships in Sofia today following the decisive medals race.

They joined Anton Dahlberg and Fredrik Bergstrom on the winners podium after the Swedish duo guaranteed themselves the men's title with a day to spare yesterday.

Mrak and Macarol finished second in the medals race, in which points count double, to finish on a winning haul of 58 points at the Yacht Club Port Bourgas in the Bulgarian capital.

Linda Fahrni and Maja Siegenthaler of Switzerland were the only pair to beat the Slovenians today but they only placed sixth overall on 87 points.

Frederike Loewe and Anna Markfort of Germany clinched second on 78 points.

Nadine Boehm and Ann-Christin Golias took third in the medals race to also finish third overall on 82 points.

Dahlberg and Bergstrom only needed to start today's medal event to be guaranteed victory but they duly won it anyway and finished on a dominant haul of 39 points.

Stuart McNay and David Hughes of the United States took second place in the open format with 72 points.

Greece's Panagiots Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis were one point behind in third, and took the European silver, while fourth-placed Malte Winkel and Matti Cipra of Germany took the bronze with 91 points.

It was confirmed last week that neither the men's nor women's 470 categories will feature as standalone events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

It is possible, however, that they will still form part of one new mixed team event, the exact composition of which is not due to be confirmed until November.
