New Zealand have selected two triathletes for this year's Summer Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires.

Dylan McCullough and Brea Roderick will both represent the nation in the Argentine capital.

They have been chosen after impressing at the Oceania Youth Olympic Games qualification event, which New Zealand hosted in New Plymouth.

McCullough won the event with Roderick second.

"Both Brea and Dylan have shown significant improvements over the New Zealand summer to cement their nominations to represent New Zealand," said Triathlon New Zealand high performance director Mark Elliott.

"They have shown great maturity in their racing and training and we have no doubt they’ll represent Triathlon NZ and the New Zealand Youth Olympic Games team with distinction at this event."

Both athletes will compete individually in Buenos Aires before teaming up with Australians to form an Oceania team for the mixed relay.

New Zealand boasts pedigree in triathlon at the Youth Olympics.

Aaron Barclay won gold in Singapore in 2010 and Daniel Hoy clinched silver at Nanjing 2014.

The country also boasts mixed relay silver and bronze medals from 2010 and 2014 respectively.

Buenos Aires 2018 will take place between October 6 and 18.
