Teams from Sweden and Slovenia lead the respective men's and women's 470 competitions after four days of competition at the European Championships in Sofia.

After an unsteady start, Swedes Anton Dahlberg and Fredrik Bergstrom have displayed ominous form in the men's event at the Yacht Club Port Bourgas in the Bulgarian capital.

They finished second, second and first in their three races today to lead by 10 points on a haul of 29 with just two races remaining tomorrow before the medal race on Thursday (May 24).

Dahlberg and Bergstrom won a silver medal together at last year's World Championships in Thessaloniki and are hoping to go one better this time around.

Panagiotis Mantis and Pavlos Kagialis of Greece lie in second place, on 39 points, after only managing two fifth-place finishes and a 10th today.

Pavel Sozykin and Denis Gribanov of Russia lie another three points back in third.

Tina Mrak and Veronika Macarol of Slovenia took the lead in the corresponding women's competition today after also recording second, second and first in their three races today.

They now sit on 37 points to lead by two from Israeli duo Gil Cohen and Noa Lasry.

Cohen and Lasry endured a mixed day in which they won race eight before slumping to 15th on race nine.

Amy Seabright and Anna Carpenter of Great Britain lie third on 49 points.

The event follows confirmation last week that neither the men's nor women's 470 categories will feature as standalone events at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

It is possible, however, that they will still form part of one new mixed team event, the exact composition of which is not due to be confirmed until November.
