Italy’s Abdou Sowe earned gold in front of a home crowd as the World Para Athletics Grand Prix in Rieti continued.

The home athlete triumphed in the F61-64 javelin competition at the Stadio Raul Guidobaldi.

He achieved a distance of 29.06 metres to top the standings in the event, with his team-mate Irbin Augusto Vicco ending second.

Vicco managed a throw of 27.68m.

An all-Italian podium was rounded off by Damiano Raniolo, a F63 category athlete, who ended 0.06m behind Vicco’s effort.

Sweden’s Jeffrey Ige secured victory in the men’s F20 shot put competition, achieving a distance of 14.53m.

Brazil’s Wellington Dos Santos and Hungary’s Istvan Szollosi completed the podium places.

The duo threw 12.59m and 11.66m respectively.

There was a victory from Denmark’s Ronni Jensen in the men’s F37 discus competition, following a second round throw of 44.75m.

Italy’s Simone Giovarruscio ended in second place, as he managed a distance of 37.00m.

The podium was rounded off by Ireland’s Noelle Lenihan, who achieved an effort of 30.75m.

Gold was earned in the women’s F20 competition as Turkey’s Mihriban Kaya produced a throw of 12.22m.

She was followed by Ukraine’s Vikoriia Shpachynska and Iceland’s Hulda Sigurjonsdottir, who achieved distances of 11.30m and 9.47m, respectively.
