Representatives of 11 national university sports associations (NUSAs) have visited Coimbra in Portugal to oversee preparations for the European Universities Games 2018.

The NUSAs of France, Germany, Great Britain, Hungary, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, The Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Serbia and Turkey were all represented.

They were hosted by the Organising Committee as well as the European University Sports Association’s (EUSA) Supervision Commission and staff.

The two-day programme begun with welcomes from EUSA and the Organising Committee, followed by presentations on key topics related to the organisation of the event.

The participants also got to know the staff of the Games, which will host competitions in 13 sports as well as educational, cultural and social events, bringing together 4,000 participants from all over Europe.

Thereafter, the NUSA representatives continued their visit by inspecting the venues that will be used for the Games.

It started with two of the major ones; the Coimbra University Stadium, which will host several sports in its large complex, and the Montemor High-Performance Center, where canoe sprint and rowing competitions will be held.

The second day started with a visit to the Opening Ceremony location, Paço das Escolas, and the Rectors' Conference venue at the University of Coimbra.

The day also included visits to other sports venues as well as dormitories and canteens.

The two-day visit ended with a question and answer session and a closing dinner, where participants were welcomed by DUC, the owl mascot of the Games.

DUC, who was unveiled only recently, was created by the University of Coimbra's Image, Media and Communication Project.

The European Universities Games 2018 are due to take place between July 15 and 28.
