The South Korean Embassy in the Cambodian capital Phnom Penh have announced that they have donated taekwondo uniforms for use at the Opening Ceremony of the National Games.

The presentation of the 800 uniforms, worth approximately $20,000 (£14,000/€16,000), was made by South Korea’s Cambodian Ambassador Oh Nak-young.

President of the Taekwondo Federation of Cambodia Hang Chuon Naron was also present at the ceremony alongside Choi Yung Suk, the South Korean who coaches the Cambodian national team.

The uniforms, sponsored by the World Taekwondo Peace Corps, are set to be used in the at the taekwondo performance at the Opening Ceremony of the National Games, due to begin in Phnom Penh on May 25.

The South Korean Embassy said it hoped that the donation of the uniforms would promote the sport of taekwondo in the wider community and "serve as a driving force for cultural exchange".

This is the second time the National Games have taken place with the previous event in 2016, which saw 2,700 athletes represent their provinces in 15 sports.

This year’s event is said to have a budget of around $600,000 (£440,000/€500,000) for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.
