Double Olympic champion Jade Jones and two-time world champion Bianca Walkden have been selected in the Great Britain squad for next month’s European Taekwondo Championship in Kazan.

Jones and Walkden will be defending the titles they won in the under-57 kilograms and over-73kg cateogries in Montreux two years ago.

Britain's third gold medallist at those Championships - Lauren Williams, winner in the under-67kg category - has also been selected for the event in Russia.

The remaining members of women’s section are the team are Jordyn Smith, winner of a gold medal in 44 kilograms category at the World Junior Championships in Tunisia last week, Maddison Moore, Lauren Williams and Jade Slavin.

The men’s team includes Mason Yarrow, Hassan Haider, Bradly Sinden, Christian McNeish, Peter Longobardi-Radford, Damon Sansum, Lutalo Muhammad and Jack Spall.

British performance director Gary Hall said: "In most categories, it was one of the easier selections we have had.

"We have had some outstanding performances in some very strong categories."

"The likes of [Christian] McNeish has won five gold medals in a row while [Bianca] Walkden hasn't lost for so long," he contined.

"These athletes are winning and winning big so it does make selection decisions easier."

The European Championships will take place in the Russian city of Kazan from May 10 to 13.

The British taekwondo team claimed four medals, including the three golds, at the last European Championships in Montreux two years ago.
