Athletes from China and Iran claimed several gold medals at the International Federation of Fitness and Bodybuilding (IFBB) Asian Bodybuilding and Fitness Championships in the Mongolian capital Ulaanbaatar.

China came out on top in the opening session of the competition with seven gold medals in a variety of fitness categories at both senior and junior level.

Kazakhstan, however, were given the two top prizes of the day after Yekaterina Pavlovskaya and Yekaterina Shalamova won the overall titles in the bodyfitness and bikni fitness categories respectively

Abdelrahman Alharti of the United Arab Emirates won the overall junior bodybuilding title.

The second session saw Iran claim six gold medals in the men's bodybuilding category with events ranging from below-55 kilogram to over-100kg.

Iran also swept the podium in the overall bodybuilding final thanks to excellent performances from Majid Jamehbozorg, Mohammed H. Taha and Ali Salim Jasim.

Alongside these Championships the 2018 Congress of the Asian Federation (AFBF), attended by IFBB President Rafael Santonja, took place.

The Asian National Federations voted for members of the AFBF Executive Board for the period 2018 to 2022.

The Congress also paid tribute to Japanese Bodybuilding and Fitness Federation and IFBB patron Hitoshi Tamari, who died in October.
